Ronaldo Won FIFA Best Player Award Despite Mikel Obi Voting for Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo won the FIFA World Best Player Men’s award for the 5th time a few hours ago equaling the record held by his arch-rival Lionel Messi.

An interesting aspect of the process of voting for the winner of the award is that Nigeria’s national team captain, Mikel Obi actually voted for Messi. See the list of some of the big names that voted for the 2 top contenders below:

Was Mikel influenced by friendship? Super Eagles players have gotten used to Argentina players over the years having played World Cup games and friendly matches. In fact,they are set to play a friendly next month.

Whatever the cause, Messi and his fans like Mikel may have to wait for next year for him to win the award.
