"Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large." This apt definition was given by the American Marketing Association.

Here in Nigeria, we have lots of marketers in every facet of the economy. Heck, every organisation needs their goods, services, ideals and offerings to be marketed. Albeit, there has been some misgivings about the field, but what we cannot overlook is the need for goods and services to be marketed, the developmental processes an individual undergoes, the sanguine nature of the field etc. A joke which plays out itself is that, it is marketers that will be able to sell ice to the Eskimos or sand to the Saharans. The field requires a lot of grit, persuasive skills, acceptable level of oral communication, perseverance and most importantly energy!!!. Marketers are revered in the FMCG sector. What will the likes of Unilever, P&G, Reckitt Benckiser and others be without marketers? Ditto banks (think of the Wealth Management division)?

There have been lots of arguments on the similarities between sales and marketing. However, whether you are sales personnel or marketer, our business still remains the same - offering goods and services to the public. If you are one, kindly drop a comment.

Is there much difference between a sales person and a marketer?
Well....
I see no difference in the two.
The task ahead of both of them is to be able to convince prospect to buy their products.
For this reason, I believe they are similar.
